Welcoming English Intermediate Classes For Migrants and Refugees @ The Welcoming
Dec 12 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Welcoming English Intermediate Classes For Migrants and Refugees @ The Welcoming | Scotland | United Kingdom

The Welcoming supports migrants and refugees to build new lives in Edinburgh. We provide a wide range of classes and activities, all available on a free of charge, drop in basis. We also create opportunities for locals and newcomers to come together, so that we can share experiences, celebrate diversity and learn together.

Around 10,000 foreign nationals come to live in Edinburgh every year. We want them all to be welcomed and provided with the support they need in order to realise their economic and social potential, and become active members of our community. Through this, Edinburgh and Scotland, can unlock the talents they bring, expand our economy, enrich our cultural capital and become a welcoming new home.

The Welcoming’s English language classes are free of charge and drop-in i.e. there is no need to book a place – just come along and join in. The only requirement is to register with us. You can do this on our Register page, or at the Welcoming office.

www.thewelcoming.org/register

Our classes are taught by our team of friendly and dedicated English language teachers. All of them are qualified to teach ESOL (English as a Second or Other Language) and many have years of experience teaching English all over the world. Most of them are volunteers, freely giving their time and expertise to help people who are new to Edinburgh.

The focus at The Welcoming is on English for everyday living and we aim to help you develop the skills and confidence to enjoy speaking in English so that you can make the most of the opportunities available to you in Edinburgh and Scotland. We stay open all year round, closing only for the public holidays at Christmas, Easter weekend and May Day.

Everyone is welcome, though very occasionally we have to close the class if there is no more space in the room. Check our Timetable page to have a look at which classes are running at the moment. If you would like to check your level of English, we suggest the following free online English tests:

The British Council – Find out your English level
ILS English – Test your English level

Glory and Dismay @ Adult Learning Project, Tollcross Community Centre
Dec 12 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Glory and Dismay @ Adult Learning Project, Tollcross Community Centre | Scotland | United Kingdom

Share your football stories and memories. Build your writing skills, improve your communication skills and meet other fans through the game you love. These courses will include guest speakers, recording methods and occasional events.

The Adult Learning Project runs free courses in women’s studies, politics, economics, culture and community, literacies, the arts and community development.

Based on the philosophy and practice of educationalist and activist Paulo Freire, ALP believes in learning as part of our daily lives: things of interest, things of personal use and things to help us make our communities better and stronger. Together we can investigate the world; educate and empower ourselves and each other; learn from ‘experts’ / professionals and from people with more experience – through dialogue, on equal terms, and in a co-operative way.

If you’re interested in getting involved or finding out more about the project, you’re welcome to come along to one of our monthly association meetings. The ALP Association is an independent body made up of adult learners and supporters of ALP. Members meet on the fourth Monday of each month at 18:45 in Tollcross Community Centre.

Welcoming English Intermediate Classes For Migrants and Refugees @ The Welcoming
Feb 20 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
